WORK WITH indigenous comunity

The ORIGEN project was born as a product proposal for the Italian design brand ALESSI

The product is a kitchen and table accessory intended for growing in water and displaying aromatic herbs.

It consists of 4 collectible sets, each one has a structure, a glass container with a woven detail and a portion of mineral stones.

O R I G E N is born from the most valuable symbol of the Nasa indigenous culture (Cauca-Colombia), the spiral, which represents the transcendence and connection with the earth and nature.

According to the Nasa, the spiral is the evolution in which living beings stay, trying to remember where we come from. For this reason in the Nasa world the shape of the spiral is evident in their daily life creating a connection with the god of the Earth.

Through ORIGEN we show the meaning of the spiral, through the growth that plants represent. Because it is the base and sustenance of the community, we take the spiral as the structure to give life to the product, without detaching ourselves from what the community represents.

We take advantage of the meaning of the term Nasa, “children of water”, to merge the fluidity of the source of life of plants with the transparency and malleability of glass. On the other hand, we take as a reference the jigra, which is the backpack that Nasa women weave, to give it the shape of the container.

Also as a last detail we integrate the original fabrics of the different jigras with the container and its structure.
